Program

As Muslims, our beliefs and practices are built upon the knowledge found in the Qurʾān and Sunnah. We have a very rich and valuable academic tradition of learning and teaching that has helped nurture and educate generations of Muslims, shaping their beliefs, values, and practices. With the advent of modernity and its various challenges, there has been a departure from this powerful tradition of Islamic Studies; many Muslims today no longer consider it a priority to study Islam properly. How do we revive this tradition of prioritizing knowledge and advance Islamic literacy?

  1. The Crisis of Knowledge – Shaykh Furhan Zubairi
  2. The Need to Study – Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda
  3. Prioritizing Islamic Education and Literacy – Dr. Tesneem AlKiek
  4. The Growing Spaces for Female Scholarship – Shaykha Ayesha Hussain
  5. Speaker Discussion – Imam Omar Suleiman, Shaykh Joe Bradford, Shaykha Muslema Purmul,  & Shaykha Alia Dada

Guests will be able to access the food court on the first floor of the Hilton Anaheim. They are also welcome to take advantage of the Halal food scene in Anaheim and surrounding cities.

Parents bringing their children are encouraged to bring snacks.

Muslim communities throughout the world face new challenges and difficulties that raise fundamental questions about the role of religion in a person’s individual, social, and political life, as well as the role and place of religion as a whole.  We are witnessing a number of shifts in the way we envision “progress,”  especially sociologically, in terms of the normalization of certain practices and ideologies. How do we, as Muslims, navigate the modern world with an Islamic world view?

  1. Roles & Responsibilities – Shaykh Joe Bradford
  2. Islam & The “-isms” – Imam Omar Suleiman
  3. Happiness in the Home – Ustadha Lobna Mulla
  4. Do We Need Feminism? – Shaykha Muslema Purmul
  5. Speaker Discussion – Shaykha Maryam Amir & Shaykha Alia Dada
Islam places a lot of emphasis on family and creating a healthy household built upon faith, love, respect, and genuine concern for one another. The Qurʾān and Sunnah are full of guidance for parents, spouses, children, siblings, and relatives designed to nurture and create the ideal home environment and a path to a healthy society. What are the elements of an Islamic household? How can we work towards nurturing healthy families and wholesome communities using Divine guidance?

  1. Sustaining a Healthy Marriage – Shaykha Maryam Amir
  2. It Takes a Village – Shaykh Ahmad AlKurdy
  3. Empathy & Emotional Intelligence – Shaykh Mikaeel Smith
One of the defining qualities of the Muslim community is its general concern for the well-being, prosperity and salvation of society at large. Islam is not an individualistic religion; it possesses a strong social and communal aspect. One of the ways in which the community works towards change and creating a healthy society is through the Prophetic model of enjoining good and forbidding evil. It is the role of the people of knowledge to lead that effort and help identify what is beneficial and what is harmful for society. What practical steps do we take to educate ourselves and become agents of positive change?

  1. Competing Worldviews – Shaykh Furhan Zubairi
  2. Rooting Our Efforts in Islam – Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda
  3. Muslims: Agents of Positive Change – Imam Omar Suleiman
  4. Speaker Discussion – Dr. Tesneem AlKeik, Shaykha Maryam Amir, Shaykha Muslema Purmul
